subject Happy Birthday

Hi! Andy,

This morning, I whispered my greeting in my head, hoping that the electronic field, the light, the wind and any other super-natural power will deliver instantly to you my best wishes and sincere thoughtfulness.

Happy Birthday to You. All the Best.

Love,
Dad

that's funny, my dad also writes "Hi! Laura," with the exclamation point in his greeting. i thought it was because english is not his first language. but maybe it is a generational thing, or just a dad thing? this is eric's gf, btw. happy bday!

Our fathers are grammatical heroes! Hi! [Name], is grammatically correct whereas Hi [Name], is not.

I think it is precisely because English is not our parents' first language that they know these nuances; unlike us, they had to read grammar books at some point beyond grade school. My father would be able to tell you the difference between the pluperfect and preterite tenses whereas I'd explain these things by saying one just sounds right.

Thanks for the birthday comment!
